Description
According to the National Geographic there are about 5,000 different species of ladybirds in the world. These much loved insects are also known as lady beetles or ladybugs, and in many cultures they’re considered good luck.
They come in a variety of different colours and patterns and most people like ladybirds because they are pretty, graceful and harmless to humans. Farmers love them because they eat aphids and other plant-eating pests, a single ladybird can consume more than 5000 aphids in their lifetime.
Also they are what I would call incidental pollinators. They travel from garden to garden and tree to tree to gather food, which includes pollen and nectar, so along the way they assist in pollination.
