The Canadian penny is being phased out. The last penny was minted on May 4, 2012 and distribution ceased on Feb 4 of this year. This photo is a tribute to the history of the penny, the first large copper penny being struck in 1797 and minted on a steam powered press designed by James Watt and Matthew Boulton.
