Description
Jousting was a sport played in the middle ages, between two Knights, usually as part of a tournament. The knights, wielding a blunted lance, would charge at each other at high speeds, the goal being to break their lance on their opponent's shield or armour, or to knock him off his horse. A knight would experience approximately three times his body weight in G-forces when a lance hit his armour.
The game was often associated with that of romance, with a knight trying to with the heart of a fair maiden in medieval times.
The sport was popular up until the 16th century, but after the death of King Henry II in 1559, it was discontinued in France.
In the 17th century it was replaced by other equestrian sports.
